Press Release – UNSC Resolution 2817 Shows Double Standards On Iran While Ignoring US–Israeli Aggression.

Press Release (12 March 2026)

UNSC RESOLUTION 2817 SHOWS DOUBLE STANDARDS ON IRAN WHILE IGNORING US–ISRAELI AGGRESSION.

On the 11th March 2026, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution (Resolution 2817) condemning Iran’s attack on US military bases and assets in the Gulf states. These are the assets that are often deployed to the US aggression against Iran. Thirteen of the 15 members of the UNSC voted on the resolution condemning “in the strongest terms the egregious attacks” by Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan, adding that such acts constitute a breach of international law and a serious threat to international peace and security.

What the UNSC Resolution conspicuously refuses to name is the aggression initiated by the main perpetrators of the ongoing conflict in Iran and the Gulf region, that is the United States and Israel. There is no condemnation of the United States and Israel for initiating an illegal war, no reckoning with the systematic violations of international law carried out through wave after wave of bombardment.

Since the 28th of February 2026, when the strikes began, at least 1,348 Iranian civilians have been killed,  among them more than 170 innocent schoolchildren. The Security Council, as it so often does, has produced language designed not to illuminate but to obscure, not to hold power accountable but to shield it.

Citizens International stands in unequivocal opposition to this breathtaking hypocrisy. The resolution demands that Iran observe an ‘immediate cessation’ from defending its sovereign nation,  while uttering not a single word of accountability toward the United States and Israel for their long record of crimes against the Iranian people through illegal economic sanctions, unauthorized military strikes, covert operations, and assassinations of leaders on Iranian soil.

This is not neutrality, nor would this represent the justice embedded in international law. This is the Security Council performing its oldest and most familiar function: protecting the imperial core from accountability while demanding submission from its targets.

Citizens International once again calls upon all peace-loving countries to condemn the actions of the United States and Israel unequivocally. We demand that the United Nations Security Council fulfill its Charter-mandated duty by taking serious, decisive action to hold the real perpetrators accountable and prevent the region from descending into a catastrophic wider war.
