Global South Forum Series: What to Make of The Global South Today? Charting Pathways in the Present Crisis

Overview:

As war once again reshapes the geopolitical landscape, the question of global power is no longer abstract. Against the backdrop of rising oil prices, economic instability, and an accelerating shift toward a multipolar world, the Global South is at a critical juncture: either to embrace itself as an active force in redefining the international order or to concede to the imperial violence that could have spelled doom for the world.

“What to Make of the Global South Today? Charting Pathways in the Present Crisis” convenes a critical forum to examine the historical traditions and movements that shaped the Global South agenda, as well as examining the challenges it faces today. The ideas that mobilized Global South, i.e., anti-colonial solidarity, economic justice, and the reimagining of a fairer international system, are not new but a long-standing vision that fueled many anti-colonial movements and developing worlds in the past. In revisiting the Global South’s past struggles and confronting its present context, the conversation seeks to illuminate the possibilities for a reinvigorated Global South, one that speaks with greater unity, purpose, and conviction in shaping a more just and equitable world order.
