Interscholastic Economics Debate Tournament (Secondary School at National Level)

Join the Interscholastic Economics Debate Tournament organized by the Southeast Asian Economics Project together with Citizens International!

This program is formatted after the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships (WIDPSC) and will be held on 30 August 2026 in person in Kuala Lumpur (venue to be announced later).

Participation is FREE and open on an individual basis (Open Track) to all Form 4 to Form 6 students from schools nationwide. This tournament has received a Letter of No Objection from the Ministry of Education Malaysia.

Printed certificates for the competition, subject to National-Level PAJSK recognition, will be given to all participants, and winners also stand a chance to win a prize pool worth RM1,000+, comprising cash, AEON vouchers, and a tournament trophy.

Participants may choose to compete individually in one of three main formats: Parliamentary Debate, Impromptu Speaking, or Persuasive Speaking. The debates will focus on three main economic themes: Colonialism in the Global Economy, Local Governance and Development, and Climate Justice in the Global Economy.

As preparation, a series of online workshops will be held, beginning with an introduction to the WIDPSC format in Workshop 1 on 2 August 2026, Workshop 2 on 8 August 2026, Workshop 3 on 15 August 2026, and a Teacher/Judge Workshop on 29 August 2026, before the tournament day on 30 August 2026.
