Security forces arrest Rohingya in Maungdaw
The security forces – police, Hluntin, Burma border security force (Nasaka) and Army – are arresting the Rohingya community in different villages of Maungdaw today (June 17, 2012).
The security forces are searching among the youth of Rohingya, elders from Nyaung Chaung village to Allay Than KYaw (All the villages are along the road of Maungdaw- Allay Than Kyaw ).
Army troops are stationed at Nurullah para from where they are killing, looting, arresting, raping and destroying houses. The security personnel have held meetings with Rohingya villagers today and threatened that “you will face more difficulties than now”. The army loots Rohingya villagers in Pandawpin village while at the same time they are having meetings elsewhere. The army takes away valuables –gold and money- and destroys other household items. What follows is a list of the number of people arrested in different villages across the Rohingyan community:
25 Rohingyan youth from Pandawpin (Nawbawna) have been arrested this morning through the meeting called by security forces.
40 Rohingyan youth from Thayai Gonetan (Knone Na para)
35 Rohingyans from Oo Doung
20 Rohingyan youth from Bagonena
5 Rohingyans from Kawzabil
9 Rohingyans from Lambagonena
Killings and injuries were reported throughout the villages:
2 Rohingyas were killed and 2 wounded in Bargowa village of Kyauktaw town
Rashid Ahmed was shot dead by Nasaka in front of the Army in the Zawmattat village this morning. Villagers buried the dead body in the village graveyard.
Shawfique Ullah was also shot dead by Nasaka in front of the Army in the Lambagonena village.
Nawbe Husson was tortured by the army and his house was destroyed and looted in the Lambagonena village.
Iddres son of Shawfi was tortured by army troops in Lambagonena village.
Most of the villagers from Gudusara village fled their villages to avoid being arrested and tortured.
Burmese authority is using new tactics against Rohingya to evacuate them from their homes. They destroy the wealth of the Rohingyan community, arresting Rohingyan youths in front of every village of Maungdaw south. They bring them to the Nasaka Headquarters where they are severely tortured, but to take photos they are given lethal weapons – long swords, knives, flaming touches and fuel bottles- to prove to the world that they (Rohingyas) are terrorists through state media.
“It is clear that the government is doing systematic ethnic cleansing to flee the Rohingyan community from their homeland ( Arakan).”
“The Rohingyans will be suffering from starvation if this situation continues. The Burmese authorities have distributed food to the Rkhine community, but not to the Rohingya community.”
