IKEA furnishing the occupation

Swedish Radio reported on 23 June that home furnishings retail giant IKEA in Israel discriminately ships to Israel's illegal settlements but not Palestinian cities in the occupied West Bank.

Swedish Radio's correspondent in Israel, Cecilia Udden, explained that she was moving to the Palestinian city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank and asked the staff at IKEA Israel if her furniture could be delivered there. She reported that behind the store's counter was a huge map of Israel that showed no boundaries for the occupied West Bank, Gaza Strip, or the Syrian Golan Heights. Although IKEA's cost of transport is calculated according to distance, to Udden's surprise, transport to Ramallah was not possible. However, the store did inform her that furniture could be delivered to various Israeli settlements throughout the occupied West Bank.

Boycott Coca Cola

Boycott Cola-Cola

In a new section on economics for The Islamic Standard news blog, we are going to start with a look at why Muslims should boycott certain products, starting with the major pro-zionist company Coca-Cola.

Long History of Support for Israel

From 1966 Coca-Cola has been a staunch supporter of Israel. In 1997 the Government of Israel Economic Mission honored Coca-Cola at the Israel Trade Award Dinner for its continued support of Israel for the last 30 years and for refusing to abide by the Arab League boycott of Israel.

This boycott has now broken down with heavy US pressure and the apostate leaders of Jordan and Egypt now have firm links and alliances with Israel, indeed the blockading of Gaza would not be possible except without Egyptian troops stopping food, medicine and essential supplies getting through to the people of Gaza and shooting dead those who tried to lift the blockade.

Supporting Baby-Killers in Gaza

Every year Coca Cola bankrolls the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce Awards which honours companies that have contributed most to the Israeli economy. In 2009 a Coca-Cola sponsored award went to Israel’s Lobby AIPAC for its lobbying of the Senate to reject of the UN call for “immediate ceasefire” and endorse the continuation of the Israel military assault on Gaza.

Coca-Cola is directly implicated in this award which went to those sustaining the bombardment and killing of Muslim men, women and children. There is blood on their hands and your’s if you buy their products.

5th Anniversary of Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS)

Today to mark the 5th anniversary of the Palestinian civil society boycott call and the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Stolen Beauty AHAVA boycott campaign, CODEPINK NYC will be joining with Brooklyn for Peace and Adalah-NY to protest the sale of AHAVA Cosmetics at the Ricky's store in Brooklyn.

You can join us in solidarity to tell Ricky's NYC NO MORE AHAVA!  Call Ricky's CEO Dominick Costello and ask him to stop carrying products by this company that profits from the occupation of the West Bank.  Call him now at (212) 352-8545 x8.??

We've been pressuring Ricky's NYC, a family-owned chain store, on this issue since last August, and think they are close to heeding their customers' and the public's call to do the right thing. Tell Ricky's: AHAVA Cosmetics are made by Israeli profiteers in Occupied Palestine. Don't sell AHAVA!

The Freedom Flotilla Sails to Gaza in May

( London , UK ) On May 24, 2010, the Freedom Flotilla sets sail for Gaza determined to, once again, challenge Israel ’s blockade of 1.5 million Palestinians trapped in an open-air prison. Under the coordination of the Free Gaza Movement, numerous human rights organizations, including the Turkish Relief Foundation (IHH), the Perdana Global Peace Organization from Malaysia , the European Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza, and the Swedish and Greek Boat to Gaza initiatives will send three cargo ships loaded with reconstruction, medical and educational supplies. At least five passenger boats with over 600 people on board will accompany the cargo ships.
